When working to make the Dyson Airblade dB hand dryer quieter than the original Dyson Airblade™ hand dryer, Dyson engineers focused on reducing sound from two key sources:
Reduced air rush noise
Airblade™ technology results in air travelling at 430mph through apertures measuring just 0.3 mm in width. Some noise is inevitable.
Dyson engineers have reduced the noise produced by the sheets of air by redesigning the shape of the apertures through which air is forced.
Reduced motor noise
Dyson acoustic engineers have made improvements to the level and the quality of the sound generated by the Dyson digital motor V4.
The Dyson digital motor V4 was seven years in the making - it's one of the world's smallest fully-integrated 1600W motors. It's the only hand dryer motor powerful enough to draw in up to 35 litres of air a second through a HEPA filter, and then dry hands in 10 seconds.
This long-life energy efficient motor is digitally switched at 6,000 times per second, making the high compression fan spin 90,000 times a minute. There are only three moving parts, so there are no slip rings or carbon brushes to wear down.
Testing based on the National Sanitation Foundation's Protocol P335 (NSF P335) shows that most other hand dryers are much slower than their manufacturers claim. Many people give up when using a slow hand dryer. But damp hands can spread up to 1,000 times more bacteria than dry hands.
Testing based on NSF P335 proves that the Dyson Airblade dB hand dryer is the fastest. It dries hands hygienically in 10 seconds. Airblade™ technology combined with the Dyson digital motor V4 creates high speed sheets of air that scrape water from both sides of the hands simultaneously. It's the fastest way.
The Dyson Airblade dB hand dryer has been approved by HACCP as being hygienically safe for use in the food and beverage industry. "The technology addresses a number of unacceptable risks posed by hand dryers in the past. It's easy to clean and is a touch-free system. It also has a fast dry cycle. With the inclusion of a HEPA filter, these features combine to considerably reduce the risk of microbiological contamination and thereby meet HACCP International's food safety criteria." Clive Withinshaw Director, HACCP International
The Dyson Airblade dB hand dryer is engineered to last. It has been repeatedly tested for durability and resilience to physical and chemical abuse. Dyson Airblade dB hand dryers have also been exposed to real-life environments to ensure that they can withstand the pressures of high usage.
With strong construction and robust materials, the Dyson Airblade dB hand dryer is suitable for high footfall, high usage locations where vandalism can be an issue. And because it uses filtered sheets of 430mph air to dry hands, there is no heating element prone to wear and failure.
Other hand dryers are unhygienic. They don't filter bacteria and viruses from the washroom air. They suck in dirty air then blow it back onto hands. The Dyson Airblade dB hand dryer uses a HEPA filter. 99.9% of bacteria and viruses in the washroom air are captured. So hands are dried using cleaner air, not dirty air.
Dyson Airblade™ hand dryers cost up to 69% less to run than other hand dryers, and up to 97% less than paper towels.
Dyson Airblade™ hand dryers produce up to 72% less CO2 than some other hand dryers and up to 68% less than paper towels.
No other hand dryer meets every part of NSF Protocol P335.
The Dyson Airblade dB hand dryer comes with a 5 year parts and 1 year labour guarantee.
Infrared sensors operate air.
Eliminates up to 99.9% of surface bacteria.

No other hand dryer meets every part of the NSF Protocol P335. Air filtration: Air used to dry hands must be HEPA filtered. Unheated Air: Heated air can remove beneficial oils from the skin. Drying time: Hands must be dried in under 15 seconds. NSF have defined dry as 0.1g of residual moisture. Damp hands can spread up to 1,000 times more bacteria. Touch free operation: The hand dryer must start and stop without user contact.
HACCP International has certified the Dyson Airblade dB and Tap hand dryer suitable for use in the food industry. These are the only two hand dryers to achieve this accreditation. Traditionally hand dryers have not been used in food preparation environments. They leave staff with damp hands because they're too slow, they blow dirty washroom air onto hands and their surfaces harbour bacteria. The Dyson Airblade™ hand dryers have fast dry time, HEPA filter and anti-microbial coating.
No stone left unturned. Everything we make or use has a carbon footprint. It presents the total amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases generated during its life. Working with the Carbon Trust, Dyson has measured the carbon footprint of the Dyson Airblade™ hand dryers. The calculation covers: materials, manufacture, transportation, use and end-of-life disposal. We are committed to further reducing the carbon footprint of everything we make and do.
